Written by
Michael Towle, this book is a practical guide to starting and running a small business in the United Kingdom. It's aimed at people who have little or no experience at running a business. It covers many of the things you'll need to deal with, including finding premises, finding and managing staff, raising finance, sales and marketing, managing customers and suppliers, dealing with cash flow problems, and more. It's not a theoretical guide, and neither does it present you with endless lists of things you need to do. It talks about the things you need to think about, and the practical issues you're likely to encounter. All the information the author imparts to the reader is gained through his 40 years experience at running small businesses. Many of the matters discussed in the book are there because they happened to him, and he dealt with them. They may happen to you. The book doesn't tell you how to make millions, or how to be enormously successful. What it does do, is assist you in making the right decisions early on in your business, and hopefully avoid some of the pitfalls.
If you're starting your first business, or have already been in business for a short while, this is the book you need to read.
